Nascida em São Paulo, 1984, Regina Parra é uma artista baseada em São Paulo, Brasil.

Pintura, vídeo e performance são os principais instrumentos poéticos que Regina Parra utiliza para abordar questões como resistência e subversão.

Ela se formou em teatro e trabalhou no campo por três anos. A conexão entre as artes cênicas - especialmente a tragédia grega - está presente em sua produção como artista visual. Sua experiência em dirigir atores e criar cenários para o teatro torna-se evidente em seus vídeos, composições e performances.

Mais recentemente, o corpo começou a desempenhar um papel mais central em suas pesquisas e preocupações. Ela se concentra no corpo social das mulheres como um lugar de afirmação e poder potencial. Mas, ao mesmo tempo, Regina percebe os corpos humanos como vulneráveis e frágeis, e trabalha, precisamente, com a possibilidade de superar suas limitações, investigando como os movimentos podem ser transformados e adaptados - algo que ela se refere como inteligência física ou maleabilidade.

Seu trabalho foi exposto em instituições como The Jewish Museum (NY, EUA), Galeria Effearte (Millan, Itália), Studio Trendy (Miami, EUA) e Galeria Millan, Pivô, CCSP, Parque Lage, Paço das Artes, Instituto Figueiredo. Ferraz, SESC_Videobrasil, MAM Recife, Fundação Joaquim Nabuco (todos no Brasil).

Os prêmios incluem: Prêmio SP Arte (2017), Prêmio Vídeo da Fundação Joaquim Nabuco (2012) e Prêmio de Residência do Ateliê Aberto_Videobrasil (2011). Em 2013, foi indicada ao Prêmio Jovens Artistas da Fundación Cisneros.

Born in São Paulo, 1984, Regina Parra is a São Paulo based artist.

Painting, video and performance are the main poetic instruments Regina Parra uses to address issues like resistance and subversion.

She graduated in Theater and worked in the field for three years. The connection between the performing arts—especially Greek tragedy—is present in her production as a visual artist. Her experience in directing actors and creating sets for the theater becomes evident in her videos, compositions, and performances.

More recently, the body has begun to play a more central role in Parra’s research and concerns. She focuses on the social body of women as a place of affirmation and potential power. But at the same time, Regina perceives human bodies as vulnerable and fragile, and therefore works precisely with the possibility of overcoming limitations by investigating how movements can be transformed and adapted - something that she refers to as physical intelligence or malleability.

Her work has been showed in institutions such as The Jewish Museum (NY, USA), Galeria Effearte (Millan, Italy), Studio Trendy (Miami, USA) and Galeria Millan, Pivô, CCSP, Parque Lage, Paço das Artes, Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz, SESC_Videobrasil, MAM Recife, Fundação Joaquim Nabuco (all in Brazil).

Awards include: SP Arte Award (2017), Video Prize from Fundação Joaquim Nabuco (2012) and Residency Prize from Ateliê Aberto_Videobrasil (2011). In 2013 she was nominated to the Young Artists Prize of Fundación Cisneros.
